01_check_file_sizes.sh - Find files too large for Git - AEA Replication Template

Description¶

Finds files in the deposit that are larger than the size limit, so they are not committed to the Git repository.

Copies .gitignore to generated/dot-gitignore and appends every file over the limit, with a dated comment.
Writes the difference to generated/diff-dot-gitignore.txt.
When large files exist, writes generated/large-file-report.md, which 24_amend_report.sh inserts into the report.

20_commit_code.sh and 30_cleanup_aux.sh later copy generated/dot-gitignore over .gitignore.

Usage¶

./automations/01_check_file_sizes.sh <directory> [tag]

directory - Deposit directory (openICPSR ID, Zenodo ID, and so on) or another directory, such as restricted data.
tag - Accepted for consistency with the other scripts; not used.

Configuration¶

limitsize in config.yml - Size limit in MB (default: 100).
